When did you start photography and realize your passion for it?
I started photography when I was 13, taking pictures on my iPod of insects and flowers. I’ve always loved animals and when I was introduced to other wildlife photographers’ work, I immediately fell in love. Over the past three years, I’ve worked in curating technique (and patience) to take great photographs and try to get my message across about the natural world and its value. I think that conservation is really important, and photography is a powerful tool to convey that. What is your favorite piece of art?
My favorite piece of art (at this moment, it changes all the time) is Girl with a Piano by Michaël Borremans. I love his romantic/classical painting style paired with surrealist scenes. I love this piece because to me, it holds a very calm, serene sort of peace while being creepy enough to make you question it. Also, it has a piano (always a plus). |
Other than photography, how else do you express yourself through art?
I love art in all forms — my primary focus is in music right now, but I am working to develop my drawing and painting. I love classical art, music included, and would love to be able to incorporate a more traditional style into my artwork whilst still keeping it relevant. If you could have dinner with any 3 artists, from any medium, who would you eat with?
I would want to talk to Franz Liszt, Francisco Goya, and Karol Syzmanowski. Liszt, because I love his prices for the piano. Also, he seems like he’d be the right amount of crazy to have a fun conversation with. Goya, because I love the themes he expresses in his work, and his brushwork technique. Syzmanowski, because I listened to his Symphony No. 4 and cried for two hours straight. |
